CFH Brings Clean Cook Stoves and Funds Briquette Enterprises in Haiti

Chefs for Humanity responded to the Haiti earthquakes by raising awareness and support for the World Food Programme (WFP). CFH funding was used to purchase clean cookstoves for WFP’s school meals programs in Haiti, which benefits thousands of children with nutritious meals, as well as the women cooking in the schools who now breathe cleaner air and cook on safer fuel efficient stoves--without the risk and time associated with searching for firewood and fuel.  CFH is also funding the establishment of micro-enterprises to train Haitians to produce the briquettes used to fuel the stoves, which are made from recycled paper and cardboard, thereby reducing the reliance on charcoal.  These micro-enterprises have the dual benefit of creating jobs and sustainable businesses while addressing environmental and safety concerns for the country.

Cat Cora Visits Haiti

This April, Cat Cora and Chefs for Humanity visited Haiti again. We witnessed inspiring accomplishments and recognized the continued challenges of a nation trying to rebuild. We were lucky to spend time with organizations having huge impact there, including the Haitian American Caucus, the Bureau de Nutrition et Developpment (BND) along with Partners in Health and the World Food Program, all of which are making strides towards sustainable agriculture, access to quality health care, food security, improved nutrition and women's empowerment. Most importantly, we saw first hand the strides being made by the Haitian people themselves, who with unparalleled resilience and fortitude, are rebuilding their country, one day at a time.
